I’m trying to figure out how to install the new engine switches I’d purchased for $76 from Torresen Marine back in July 2012. I still need to replace the existing deteriorating ones.
The original panel is long gone. The boatyard shop I’d relied on for advice back in 2001 had, over time, taken the panel out, moved the running light controls to the new interior DC panel, and the gauges to the forward cockpit well wall. The switches were attached directly through the starboard cockpit well wall next to the helm. It was way before I understood the function and value of the original panel.
These are the switches in their current location in the starboard aft well wall, with the holes for the original gauges filled in.
The switch wiring currently looks like this.
This is the set of notes the shop created when they changed the electrical configuration for the wiring harness to make all these changes.
This is the new key switch I bought.
Three connections on the new, but only two on the old. On the existing one, the red wire to the left goes to the battery, and the other red wire goes to the glow plug.
In this diagram, I am understanding that the “S” post connector may go to the glow plug switch.
I have two new push switches, one for glow plug and one for starter.
And the current wiring for the glow plug and starter button
I should be able to wire in the glow plug and starter switches at the very least, with this information.
